Police Commemoration Day: Bihar DGP visits martyr SHO’s home to meet his family

PATNA: Starting a new tradition on occasion of Police Commemoration Day, Bihar police DGP KS Dwivedi on Sunday visited martyred Pasraha police station SHO Ashish Kumar Singh’s native village at Saroja at Simri Bakhtiyarpur in Saharsa district and met his family grieving family members.
Dwivedi also offered garland on Singh’s photograph at his parental residence and handed Rs 50,000 to Singh’s wife posthumously for his bravery. IG (Operation) Kundan Krishnan and IG (Prohibition) Ratn Sanjay Katiyar also accompanied Dwivedi in a chopper to Saroja.
Singh, a 2009 batch sub-inspector died during a midnight encounter with heavily armed dacoits at diara (riverine belt) on borders Khagaria and Bhagalpur district on October 13. A dacoit Shrawan Kumar was killed while constable Durgesh Prasad Yadav was injured in the encounter.
Some top police also visited residence of other policemen who had lost their lives on line of duty earlier.
The commemoration day is observed each year to remember ten CRPF personnel who were killed during a sudden Chinese attack in Ladakh region on October 21, 1959.
Before leaving for Saroja, DGP paid homage to martyred police officers at a memorial in Mithilesh Stadium inside BMP-5 premises on early Sunday morning.
While talking to media persons, Dwivedi said new tradition to visit residence and schools of the fallen police officers has been started on suggestion of PM Narendra Modi which he had given during a national conference of top police officials held in January this year.
“A unanimous decision was taken by senior officials for giving a push and initiate steps that people and society is made aware about policemen who sacrifice their live on line of duty. From onwards, we would visit residences and schools of martyred police officers this day every year,” he said.
Dwivedi said Bihar Police’s ten personnel were killed while on duty while altogether 419 policemen sacrificed their lives across country from September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018. He said around 35,000 police personnel had lost their lives since country’s independence.
CRPF Bihar Sector IG Charu Sinha and SSB Patna frontier IG Sanjay Kumar also paid homage to martyred police officers at their respective headquarters at Rajeev Nagar. CISF DIG SN Singh also paid homage at eastern zone headquarters in Patliputra. CRPF lost its 27 men while SSB and CISF lost six and nine personnel respectively across country in a year.
