2 held for running gambling racket
tnn | Oct 22, 2018, 04:00 ISTSurat: Two persons were arrested by city crime branch for running an online racket of gambling on Sunday. Nishit alias Pinto Sanghvi (28), a resident of Rander, and Mukesh Shah, 48, of Katargam, were arrested for offering gambling platforms to people on mobile applications.
They used to invite persons known to them to bet on online games and the winners were given cash awards. The accused started gambling activities on mobile applications since they were not risky compared to running a gambling den. The arrests were made by a team headed by police sub-inspector V J Chavda.
“We received specific information about this online gambling racket. We kept a watch on the movement of the accused and arrested them after gathering evidence,” said a police officer.
The accused had also paid money to Jigar Kothari, who is one of the key operators of the racket. Police are making efforts to locate those involved in the racket but based in other centres.
