“As many as 2.36 lakh citizens have paid a total of Rs 219.78 crore in property tax through cashless methods. While 88,811 persons paid Rs 52.12 crore tax in cash, 17.86% of the total collection,” said Dilip Gawde, the additional commissioner and chief of property tax department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
PCMC had introduced cashless transactions for payment of property tax in 2008. “Cashless transactions formed 2.06% of the total collection in 2008-09. It increased to 10.41% in 2012-13, 21.79% in 2016-17 and 45% in the last fiscal year,” Gawde said.
In a bid to encourage cashless transactions, the PCMC will now allow card payments for property tax at their divisional offices. “Property tax can now be paid at at 16 divisional offices using cards. The service started on October 15,” Gawde added.
