PM Modi asks carpet industry to grab 50% share in global market in 2 years

VARANASI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Indian carpet industry is surely ready to capture 50% of carpet export market of world in coming two years but it should also try to take the value of export from existing Rs 9000 crores to Rs 25000 crores by 2022.
PM Modi was addressing the inaugural function of 4-day India Carpet Expo-2018 organised at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Trade Facilitation Centre in Bada Lalpur area through video conferencing on Sunday evening. He said, “Currently the India carpet has a share of 35% in global market which is already a big achievement. The way government is extending all support to this industry by solving its problems and issues on priority, it is all set to achieve the target of capturing 50% carpert export market in coming two years.”
Lauding efforts of carpet weavers, manufacturers and exporters for making `Made in India’ a brand in global carpet market PM said, “We should always keep it in mind that from the current figures of Rs 9000 crores of total carpet export, we have to touch the figure of Rs 25,000 crores by 2022 when the country will be celebrating its 75th year of independence.” Highlighting how his government has tried to create a conducive atmosphere for all associated with carpet industry he said that Indian carpets are not only artistic and cost effective but also environment friendly.
