Nirzar’s weeklong ‘Mai Marathi’ film fest from Oct 26
Barkha Mathur | tnn | Oct 22, 2018, 04:10 ISTNagpur: After a long gap of nearly six years, Nirzar Cine Club is once again set to organize ‘Mai Marathi’ film festival from October 26. Featuring 25 films and 35 screenings at Panchsheel talkies, the festival this is time is attempting to bring together producers and distributors of Marathi films.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Samir Nafde, executive president of Nirzar said, “This being the centenary year of three giants of Marathi literature and cinema, PL Deshpande, GD Madgulkar and Sudhir Phadke, we will be screening two films ‘Gulacha Ganpati’ and ‘Pudhcha Paul’ featuring these artists.”
The festival will open on Friday at 7pm with the premiere of a local production ‘Reshtip’. “The film features artists from Vidarbha and has been made locally. Their entire team will be present on the first day. The event will be inaugurated by actor filmmakers Sachin Khedekar and Subodh Bhave,” Nafde informed.
The festival will also pay tributes to the founder president of Nirzar Cine Club Sanjay Surkar and renowned Marathi actress Smita Talwalkar with screening of their two films ‘Chaukat raja’ and ‘Tu tithe me’. The chairman of Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal, Meghraj Raje Bhonsle will also be present for the inauguration.
The festival, which will conclude on November 1 will have five screenings every day starting at 10am. There will also be a 1 ½ hour open house every day at 7pm where actors, directors and filmmakers will take questions from the viewers.
“Our focus is more on the artistes who hail from Nagpur and are now working in Mumbai. We have extended invitations to Priya Bapat, Jayant Gadekar, Shweta Puranik, Charudutt Bhagwat and Manisha Korde to attend screenings and interact,” Nafde said and added that though a schedule has been set but screenings may change in accordance with the dates on which these artistes are available.
The festival will conclude with the screening of film ‘Bucket List’ and its director Tejas Deoskar and actor Sumeet Raghvan are likely to be present.
The season ticket for the festival is Rs700 while a single day pass will be available for Rs200. The tickets will be available at Panchsheel theatre and other outlets.
