Trainer charged with doping horse at Innisfail

A licensed thoroughbred trainer has been charged for allegedly injecting a horse with a substance before a race at Innisfail.

The Racing Crime Squad have charged the 63-year-old with administering a substance to the horse, Oakland Avenger, on Saturday.

He was charged against the provisions of the Racing Integrity Act – A person must not use a prohibited thing on, or interfere with a licensed animal – and investigations into criminal charges are continuing.

He was given notice to appear at the Innisfail Magistrates Court on November 12.

The trainer's three horses were scratched from the race meeting.

A Stewards Inquiry was commenced and adjourned in relation to three racing participants for
administering race day treatment prior to the Innisfail race meeting.
