University of Canberra struggle without stood-down stars
The University of Canberra women's sevens team endured a tough weekend but finished on a high in the final leg of the University Sevens series in Adelaide.
Canberra failed to score any points through their first four games in the wake of five players being stood down for disciplinary reasons.
Quintet Paremo Marsh, Ngawai Eyles, Regan Hart, Tayla Stanford and Jess Howard were sorely missed as Canberra finished the season in sixth place.
They were shut out by Bond University 29-0, the University of Queensland 25-0 and the University of New England 17-0 on Saturday, before falling to Griffith University 26-0 on Sunday.
But Canberra avoided the wooden spoon with a 31-10 triumph over the University of Melbourne in their final hit-out on Sunday afternoon.
Darcy Read bagged a first-half double with Kiara Meredith-Brown, Georgia O'Neill and Claudia Obst also getting on the score sheet, while Sammi Wood kicked three conversions.
