DMK is the most corrupt party, says Palaniswami
tnn | Oct 22, 2018, 00:48 ISTSalem: Facing a slew of corruption charges against him and his ministerial colleagues, chief minister Edappadi K Palanimswami sought to turn the tables by accusing the DMK of being the most corrupt party.
As DMK has embarked on a petitioning spree in courts accusing AIADMK ministers of scams, EPS alleged that the DMK was levelling the charges only to divert attention from the fact that corruption cases against erstwhile DMK ministers are being fast tracked. Addressing the gathering at a public meeting near Veerapandi in Salem on Sunday, EPS said it was in DMK that 10 or 11 of its former ministers were facing corruption cases.
He said the Supreme Court has ordered corruption cases against MLAs, MPs and ministers to be heard by a special court. “So, the cases against former DMK ministers are soon to come up for hearing in a special court. When that happens DMK’s reputation will fall and Stalin is worried about the judgements. It is to prevent that DMK is levelling allegations against us,’’ the chief minister said.
Continuing the war of words with DMK president M K Stalin, EPS listed out series of allegations of irregularities against the opposition party. “DMK is spreading falsehoods about AIADMK every day. But irrespective of your (DMK) attempts, you cannot come to power,’’ he said.
Drifting away from his earlier speeches where he chose not to target former DMK president M Karunanidhi, EPS came down heavily on the late leader accusing him of causing innumerous troubles to AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran and later for J Jayalalithaa. “When MGR founded AIADMK, he faced number of troubles from DMK. After his demise Amma suffered untold hardship meted out by Karunanidhi. With the support of cadres, she overcame all the difficulties,’’ he said.
