Taking a news story published by an English daily on child prostitution in Yadadri as Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition suo moto, Hyderabad High Court has issued notices to the Centre and the State governments. The petition will come up for hearing on Monday before the division bench headed by Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan.
The story mentioned about some persons forcing children into prostitution in Yadadri, a temple town on the outskirts of Hyderabad, along with sexual exploitation of children and women in other parts of Telangana State.
Responding to the report, the Chief Justice took up the matter as PIL petition. The HC secured a report from the officials concerned who stated that 23 cases were registered against 33 persons on the matter. Thirty three girls were rescued from brothels in the case. The Union Ministries of Women and Child Welfare and Social Justice and Empowerment, Telangana Home Department, DGP, Rachakonda Police Commissioner, Yadadri Deputy Commissioner of Police, Telangana Women and Child Welfare Committee, Nalgonda District Child Welfare Committee chairperson and Telangana State Legal Service Authority have been made respondents in the petition.
