A 36-year-old assistant lineman with Bescom was electrocuted and his colleague Eranna, 43, sustained burns on Tuesday while repairing an electric pole on Hosal Road in Parappana Agrahara. The deceased, Yarab, was the second lineman to die that day while on duty.

According to the police, Yarab had climbed the pole for repair work with an assistant executive engineer supervising from below. The power, which had been switched off, came back on and Yarab was electrocuted, while Eranna was injured.

Yarab’s wife, Shahina, later filed a complaint with the police alleging that Bescom engineers had not provided safety gear to Yarab.

Eranna, who sustained minor burn injuries, is recuperating in hospital.

Bescom has conducted an internal probe to ascertain the cause of the accident, and the police are awaiting the report.
