NEW DELHI: Jet Airways on Friday told its pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers and senior management that 25% of their September salary will be paid by next Thursday (October 25). No date has been given for clearing the remaining 75% of September pay to this section of employees.

"While there is a delay in the payment of the September 2018 payroll, please be reassured that the company remains committed to honour its obligation and is making every possible effort to release the remaining amount at the earliest. We remain grateful for your continued support and understanding and look forward to sharing further developments in this regard soon," Jet's chief people officer Rahul Taneja told employees in a mail on Friday. Tatas in talks to pick up stake in struggling Jet Airways

The Naresh Goyal-founded Jet, which has delayed salaries to pilots and is staring at default on payments, has sought an equity collaboration. But Tata Sons, the parent of the $103 billion business behemoth, has sought management control.

"By the time the 25% of September pay comes, our dues will be 75% of that month's pay and 100% of October. The dues will mount unless the company is able to raise adequate working capital quickly," said a worried employee. Jet's employee remuneration cost was 2,995 crore in the fiscal 2017-18. But Jet's union of Indian pilots, National Aviators' Guild (NAG), on October 9 told members that the "management has conveyed that it is not in a position to honour the October 11 commitment nor can they give a firm date for payment."

NAG's communication had come after a meeting with the management. The airline is trying to raise funds and is learnt to be in talks with major groups like Tata for stake sale.
