Report: Thousands of Georgia Voters Purged For Not Voting in Past Elections

((VO-Voters))??More than 100-thousand Georgia residents are being removed from voter rolls because of inactivity, according to a new report.????((VO-APM Screenshot/Voter pin))??According to an APM reports analysis voters are being affected by the state’s “use it or lose it law” - which impacts residents ability to vote.

The Hill reports that if a Georgia resident doesn’t vote or make contact with election officials within a three year period they are removed from voter rolls in that state.????((VO-Voting))??The APM report notes that many of the estimated 107-thousand people may not even realize they are ineligible to vote in the upcoming November 6th midterms. ????((VO-American Flag/ Republican Elephant))??The report also notes that at least nine other states with similar laws have purged hundreds of thousands of people from voter rolls since 2014.

A majority of the states enacting these policies have Republican leaders, according to APM.????((VO-Rolling Stone Screenshot/Kemp YT))??Voter Suppression has being a major issue in the Georgia governor’s race.

Rolling Stone reports that the Georgia NAACP filed a joint lawsuit against Republican Brian Kemp over the “exact match” policy, which the organization says negatively impacts the ability of minorities to register to vote.????((VO-Voters))??The policy was signed into law last year and says that each resident’s voter application must replicate the information on file with the Social Security Administration.

Even something as small as a misplaced dash can cause voter registration to be “on hold” according to the site.
