Amritsar: In a major train mishap in Amritsar, at least 50 people are said to be feared dead after a train runs into burning Ravan effigy constructed alongside the railway track at Choura Bazar.
People watching the burning Ravan effigy during Dussehra celebrations could not hear the sound of the train approaching due to the crackers’ noise.
The toll is expected to rise over 100. There were around 500-700 people at the spot. Several injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals.
Rescue operations are underway.
