One of the best things about a trip to the cinema is having your snacks and drinks right at hand, sitting securely in the side of your chair.

But thanks to one savvy Australian mother, it now seems you can enjoy the luxury of silver screen viewing from the comfort of your own lounge.

Taking to a Facebook group, the mum detailed how she transformed a basic $10 serving tray into an armrest table to hold treats and cups during TV time.

The post was awash with comments praising the woman's creativity, and quickly racked up more than 2,000 likes.

'I want to say a huge thank you to whoever it was that had the ingenious idea to use this serving stand as an armrest table,' the woman began.

'I've been wanting to make something for my couch for so long. I unscrewed the stand and moved the metal legs to the other side of the wood so that it's a tight fit on the couch arms.

'I guess it's a re-purpose more than a hack!'.

The woman explained the metal bars are 'easily adjustable' to suit almost any lounge or chair.

A slew of comments called the budget friendly hack 'fantastic', with one saying: 'I've been asking my hubby to make something like this for years – I'd be better off doing it your way!'

'What a brilliant idea – next stop Kmart!,' another wrote.

Another revealed the post had inspired her to use the serving tray for a different but equally innovative purpose.

'You have inspired me. I made my own lamp but it has nothing to sit on – I don't particularly like floor lamps so using the serving tray as a stand will do great, cheers!'.
