Police convene meetings with leaders of two sects

The South Zone Police arrested Syed Abbas Ali Razvi after a widely-shared video clip showed him using objectionable language against religious personalities, who are revered by a sect of Muslim community.

It was on Wednesday that Moghalpura police booked Razvi, who was then absconding, for allegedly promoting enmity between two sects. The video clip caused a flutter with several persons condemning its content. On Friday, the police convened a meeting with faith leaders of both sects to prevent the issue from snowballing into a sectarian conflict.

While South Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Ambar Kishore Jha convened a meeting with Maulana Taqi Raza Abedi, Maulana Waheeduddin Hyder and Syed Jafar, among others, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar chaired a meeting with Maulana Husamuddin Sani, Maulana Mohammed Raheemuddin Ansari and others. Faith leaders of the latter are said to have expressed strong displeasure at the video clip.

Those who attended the meetings said the police urged both the groups to help them maintain peace in the city. As a precautionary measure, former South Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana, now Commissioner, Ramagundam, and former South Zone Additional DCP Babu Rao, now Additional DC, Traffic, were summoned to assist police soon after the trouble began.

Razvi has been booked under various sections of the IPC including 295, 295-A, 505-C and 153-A.
