GREATER NOIDA: Taking cognisance of increasing smog in the region, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) CEO Narendra Bhooshan issued directives for graded response action plan (GRAP) to curb pollution in the region as per National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) guidelines to officials from planning, health, projects, horticulture and urban services departments on Thursday.
The GNIDA directed officials to make sure that no garbage burning takes place in the region and that all construction work related processes such as construction material, transport and under construction building must be well covered with tarpaulin. “Anyone found burning garbage especially near landfill site will be penalised heavily,” said Bhooshan who adds that burning of leaves, horticulture waste or compost in urban areas is completely prohibited.
He also directed sprinkling of water on roads and automated/mechanical sweeping of concrete roads with special care of sprinkling water on all kuchha roads in the region.
Every year, the Delhi-NCR region faces acute smog and air pollution during this time of season due to the burning of crop residue at neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana.
Bhooshan maintained that to curb increasing pollution in the region GNIDA has so far fined Rs 250 lakh on flouters of NGT norms including under-construction projects, hot mix plants, RMC plants to burning of urban horticulture and garbage waste.
