Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Allegedly On Track For 2019 Geneva Show Premiere

Rumors surrounding a Super Sport variant of the Bugatti Chiron have been circulating for quite some time, and it seems that the Molsheim-based automaker is indeed going to launch such a version.

Quoting undisclosed sources within the company, TheSupercarBlog says that Bugatti is planning a more extreme version of the Chiron for the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that kicks off next March.

The model was reportedly shown to potential customers during the Divo’s unveiling a couple of months ago, in official sketches. At the time, it was described as a “ground-to-ground missile” and “a beauty of speed”.

If the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is indeed coming fast our way, then it might benefit from a few aerodynamic updates and a slight diet that should make it a tad lighter than the Chiron Sport, which in turn weighs 18 kg (40 lbs) less than the ‘regular’ Chiron.

Powering it will be the same quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine found in the Chiron and Divo. However, the publication believes that it will probably be tuned to deliver more than 1,500 PS (1,479 hp / 1,103 kW) and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque, although the exact number is unknown.

This might allow Bugatti to finally chase after the land speed record for production cars again, which CEO Stephan Winkelmann said was “not a priority” in an interview with CNBC earlier this year.

Production of the Chiron Super Sport will be apparently limited, with 20 to 40 units expected to see the light of day. Unsurprisingly, the car firm is said to have a number of orders already.
