It will show Congress is still strong in State, says party leader

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is to kick start his party’s campaign in the election to Telangana Legislative Assembly on Saturday from Bhainsa town which is part of Mudhole constituency in Nirmal district.

The gathering for the public meeting, most of which will comprise of farmers drawn from the constituency itself, will be eagerly waiting for him to talk about the crisis which has gripped the agriculture sector. Mudhole constituency is among the areas which are badly hit by agrarian crisis. The higher incidence of suicides by cotton farmers in this belt is a pointer to this fact.

The farmers will be looking forward to Mr. Gandhi talking about the party’s agenda for addressing their problems. The closest he had come to interacting with farmers was during his visit in May 2016 when he walked for 15 km in Laxmanchanda and Mamda mandals in Nirmal constituency handing over cheques as a measure of relief to kin of farmers who had committed suicide in the area.

“Our president will also talk about the reasons for which the Congress gave Telangana State, what it has been reduced to by the misrule of Telangana Rashtra Samiti and what the party has in store for the people of this State,” stated Adilabad District Congress Committee working president Naresh Jadhav. “The huge gathering at the public meeting will also demonstrate that Congress is still strong in the State and will come back to power in this election,” he said.

Though the party has set a target of getting about 2 lakh people to the meeting of the AICC president, a realistic figure would be in the vicinity of one lakh.

The Congress party leaders have made arrangements to transport people from Adilabad, Boath (ST), Nirmal, Khanapur, Mancherial, Bellampalli (SC), Asifabad (ST) and Mudhole constituencies.
