A Sudanese refugee who had a promising career in football has pleaded guilty to taking part in an aggravated home invasion alongside two of his friends last year.
Majok Aneet, who played in Victoria's Western Jets side and in the reserves for the Werribee VFL squad, stood by as two men allegedly violently attacked their victim.
The horrifying incident unfolded last February in Avondale Heights, 12 km north-west of Melbourne, where Aneet stopped a witness from protecting the victim, according to Nine News.

While he was violent towards the defenseless man, he watched as his two friends allegedly dragged the male victim inside his house, punched him in the face and stomped on his ribs.
They also made off with a hard drive and two computers from inside the home.
Aneet arrived in Queensland after fleeing war torn South Sudan with his family in 2004 - as a teenager he moved to Victoria where he started playing football.
In a police interview following the incident, he downplayed his involvement, claiming he 'got a lift to bloke's house and was sleeping in the car' and it was 'just a bunch of friends having a push around.'

He has already spent 179 days in custody and is due to be assessed for a community corrections order.
The Judge told the County Court on Thursday he was likely to spend a significant amount of time behind bars.
He reportedly met someone in prison with links to an AFL club and he expressed ambition to be placed on a list for players from multicultural backgrounds.
He is due to be sentenced on November 30.
