Tom Goux headed to New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center

NEW BEDFORD — The New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center will welcome Tom Goux for an evening of the songs and poetry of the Yankee mariner on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

For over four decades, Goux has been collecting and performing the chanteys, ballads and ditties of the New England seafarer. He brings to life the salty sentiments of deep-water mariners, intrepid whalermen and coastal fisherfolk. Accompanied by concertina, guitar, Hawaiian guitar and ukulele, his selections span three centuries of music and verse commemorating the American maritime epoch.

Goux has performed across the country at the Sea Music Festival at Mystic Seaport, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the Smithsonian Institution, the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and the Galveston Historical Society, and the Columbia River Maritime Museum, to name a few. 

As leader of the Rum Soaked Crooks, he is well known to festival audiences throughout the region, and is the founding director of the New Bedford Harbor Sea Chantey Chorus.

Tickets are $12 for members; $15 for non-members and are on sale now at the Fishing Heritage Center or on line at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3522024. Tickets will be available at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Center is located at 38 Bethel Street and is handicap accessible with free off-street parking.
