Thug who bashed and sexually assaulted a 79-year old woman in her own home tells cops he did it because he's 'not a good drunk'

A young thug who bashed and sexually assaulted an elderly woman in her own home during a drunken rampage later told cops his mates reckon he's the 'worst drunk ever'. 

Jiokthiang Dauch, 20, claimed he'd downed at least half-a-bottle of Cointreau when he embarked on a terrifying crime spree across Box Hill, in Melbourne's east, last April.

'I'm very low tolerant of alcohol. I'm not a good drunk. Everyone tells me I'm the worst drunk,' he told police after sobering up.

Dauch, who came to Australia from Sudan when he was two, claimed he couldn't remember bashing the 79-year old woman. 

Nor could he remember sexually assaulting his vulnerable victim and leaving her bloody and bruised on her own back porch. 

Dauch broke into her backyard after attacking another woman moments earlier outside her house with a garden hose.

He tried to kiss that woman, but she fought Dauch off as he choked the life out of her. 

She called the police, but they would not get there in time to save her elderly neighbour from the sickening assault. 

The County Court of Victoria heard Dauch climbed the stairs of the woman's Barcelona St home and began bashing on her back window. 

It was broad daylight and his victim had been busy in the kitchen.

She screamed for help as Dauch smashed his way into her home and grabbed a knife from a drawer. 

'Somebody help me please. Somebody here is trying to kill me,' she shreiked. 

Dauch put the knife to her throat and uttered words the woman would never forget. 

'I will kill you. I will f**k you, give me a kiss,' he said. 

The brave woman managed to knock the knife out of Dauch's hands, but that only enraged the cowardly brute. 

'I'll kill you. I'll f**k you,' he shouted.

He punched the woman repeatedly in the face before throwing her against the kitchen wall and pulling down her pants. 

Crying and screaming, she continued to resist, but Dauch forced himself upon the woman and sexually assaulted her. 

When she fought him off again Dauch turned her own walking stick on her, beating her with it until it broke. 

Dauch then picked up a portable fan and smashed that on his victim too. 

He was arrested a short distance from her home.  

Dauch pleaded guilty to a swag of charges, including aggravated burglary, sexual assault and intentionally causing injury. 

He also pleaded guilty to damaging various cars as he made his way across Box Hill that day.

The court heard the attacks devastated both of his victims, who no longer feel safe in their own homes. 

The elderly woman's son said his mother was now too afraid to go outside and tend to her garden, which had always been her greatest joy. 

But Dauch's barrister claimed the aggravated burglary on her home - which carries a 25-year maximum sentence - was 'not a high-end example of that offence if viewed in isolation'. 

He asked that Dauch be sent to youth detention.  

Judge Trevor Wraight said he did not agree, but said Dauch's rehabilitation needed to be his 'paramount sentencing consideration' because of his youth. 

He sentenced Dauch to five years in jail with a non-parole period of two-and-a-half years. 

Dauch will likely walk from jail in a little under two years, having already serving 198 days behind bars.
