HUBBALLI: Two historical temples in Karnataka — Virupaksha temple in Hampi and Mahabaleshwar temple in Gokarna — could soon have a dress code for visitors.
The temple authorities have suggested that men wear shirts, trousers, dhotis, and women wear chudidhars or saris. The authorities are likely to ban shorts and sleeveless shirts. Mahabaleshwar temple is likely to implement the code soon, while Virupaksha temple is awaiting the government’s nod.
The Hampi temple is a Unesco World Heritage Site, and is said to have been built between 9th and 10th centuries. The Gokarna temple is called Dakshina Kashi, and finds mention in Hindu epics.
