Having played all nine games for Delhi so far in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Gautam Gambhir is the second highest run-scorer with 517 runs at an average of 57.44.
The Delhi Captain has recorded two centuries and a fifty and is just 43 runs away from the table-topper Tamil Nadu’s Abhinav Mukund.
Since the Vijay Hazare Trophy final this edition is going to be between Mumbai and Delhi, Gambhir has a chance to surpass Mukund and end as the highest run-getter of this tournament.
On the day when Gambhir-led spirited Delhi won a close encounter against Jharkhand to seal a place in the final, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the upcoming Deodhar Trophy, India’s another List A tournament.
What angered the cricket enthusiasts is that the BCCI ignored the in-form Gambhir. Let alone making him the skipper of one of the three teams (India A, India B, and India C), Gambhir was not even included as a player in the tournament.
Here are some of the tweets:
@BCCI such Unprofessional and Biased Selectors. The Person Who performed the best @GautamGambhir couldn't find a Place in either of the Three Teams for Deodhar Trophy... Shame On You...#VijayHazareTrophy #deodhartrophy

When the second highest Run scorer (Gautam Gambhir) of the #VijayHazareTrophy is not selected for Deodhar Trophy, then on what basis you are selecting the team? @BCCIdomestic@BCCI Note : Both are white Ball tournaments.

Earlier on Thursday, Pawan Negi, batting at No. 9, scored an unbeaten 39 under intense pressure, helping Delhi pull-off a thrilling two-wicket win over Jharkhand in the second semifinal.
Chasing 200, Delhi were down and out at 149 for eight in the 38th over before Negi and Navdeep Saini (13 not out off 38) batted for almost 12 overs, sharing a match-winning 51-run stand for the ninth wicket.
Pacer Saini was deservingly named the man of the match as he gave the much-needed support to Negi in the tense run chase after taking four wickets that limited Jharkhand to 199 all out in 48.5 overs.
