Facility expected to improve power supply on Pondicherry University campus

Electricity supply on Pondicherry University campus is set to improve with the commissioning of a dedicated High Tension feeder.

Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University formally launched the facility at a function held at Kalidoss Hostel, on the campus.

The V-C pointed out that the university’s high tension distribution system is now brought under Ring Main System with underground cables and 15 substations with LT UG cables to ensure a reliable source of power.

The new feeder will minimise power outages on the university campus, even during adverse weather conditions.

The research work which often faced difficulties due to power disruption will be thing of the past, Prof. Gurmeet Singh said.

The project was undertaken and completed in a span of five years at a cost of ₹5 crore through Central Public Works Department. Prof. Singh also appreciated the officials from the State and Central Governments for the expeditious execution of the feeder project.

Sasi Kanda Dass, Registrar, Prakash, Finance Officer, R. Samyuktha, University Librarian, Prof. Balakrishnan, officials and engineers from the Puducherry Electricity Department and Central Public Works Department, besides Heads of Departments and Deans of various departments and students participated in the commissioning.
