Matt Farah Auctions His Modified Fox-Body Mustang SSP For Charity

The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah has put his modified Fox-Body 1988 Ford Mustang SSP up for auction, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to charity.

This particular example is a Special Service Package coupe used by California Highway Patrol between 1988 and 1994. SSP models are highly sought after as they are the lightest version of the Fox-body Mustang, making them the most suitable for performance modifications.

Speaking of which, there are a lot of them here, starting with a 5.0-liter Ford Racing crate engine, making 385hp with 350lb-ft of torque and bolted to a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox. The chassis also features an independent rear suspension instead of the original solid rear axle. Bilstein shocks and springs are used in all four corners, along with Derlin bushings and disc brakes from a Mustang Cobra.

The bodywork was widened and painted by RDB LA, using steel fenders and carbon overfenders, as well as a Saleen lower front air dam. The wheels are 18-inch items from HRE fitted with a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires.

The interior features Recaro bucket seats with six-point harnesses and a rather funky custom fabric upholstery. There’s also a welded roll cage, a Momo Prototipo steering wheel and a set of Autometer Pro-Comp gauges in the place of the original ones. Being an SSP car means there’s no air conditioning, stereo, power windows or central locking.

This rather famous Ford Fox-body Mustang is currently listed at Bring A Trailer.
