RAJKOT: An old-aged couple was brutally murdered and their house burgled by unidentified persons in Randola village near temple town Palitana late on Monday night.
Karsan Rangpara (77) and his wife Vajuben (73) were found in a pool of blood by his nephew Devsi, who has a farmland adjacent to the couple’s, on Tuesday morning.
Police said that the robbers climbed a pole and entered the couple’s house in the farm sometime after midnight. They tied Rangpara and his wife, who were sleeping, with the cots and smothered their mouths so that they did not shout for help. After tying them, the assailant brutally smashed their heads with some sharp as well as blunt weapons.
After killing them, they went inside their house and took away ornaments and cash. However, the value of the stolen goods was not known immediately.
Rangpara had 25 bighas land and had sown cotton. The couple was living in this village for several years. Their two daughters are married and live in Jamvadi village of Bhavnagar district.
In the morning, Devsi came to his farm land and went to check on his uncle. He saw them lying in a pool of blood and the cupboard open. He immediately called the police, which has begun a manhunt to trace the robbers.
RD Jadeja, deputy superintendent of police, Palitana, said, “Prima facie it looks like the the couple as murdered with an intention of loot. However, we are probing all the aspects.”
