Mumbai: An eight-year-old boy died of a snake bite in Gondia, but a local ayurvedic doctor falsely assured the family he could revive the child. When it was evident the doctor could not work a miracle, there was anger and the people of Ghoti village resorted to violence.

Eight-year-old Aditya Gautam was bitten by a snake and died on Sunday. The local ayurvedic practitioner, Navin Lilhare, said with the help of other doctors, he would be able to revive the child within 24 hours. But when the villagers realised that Lilhare had fooled them, their anger knew no bounds. They burnt tyres in the village and staged a rasta roko.  Navin Lilhare and three others were arrested for giving false assurances and perpetuating superstition. The accused practitioner is originally from Katangi, Madhya Pradesh.
