Sabarimala temple row: NDA, Shiv Sena support strike called by Sabarimala Karma samithi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA ) and Shiv Sena Kerala unit have declared their support to Thursday's harthal called by Sabarimala Karma samithi, a relatively obscure organisation.
NDA chairman and BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai said they would support to the harthal as a mark of protest against police action on protesters and devotees en route Sabarimala on Wednesday.
The harthal was announced by the Karma samithi a couple of days ago in protest against the state government's alleged obstinate stand towards the Sabarimala issue.
The harthal would be observed from 6am to 6pm, across the state. Pillai told reporters in a press conference in Pathanamthitta that police used brutal force against devotees, including aged women. He asked the harthal supporters to ensure that harthal is observed peacefuly.
Shiv Sena state president (Rajya Pramukh), M S Bhuvanachandran supported the harthal, in protest against police action against protesting devotees. He said in the case of young women's entry in Sabarimala, the temple should be closed and it should be reopened only after conducting necessary rituals toward off the ill-effects caused due to a breach of tradition.
