Piers Morgan has mocked Karl Stefanovic after the Today show host's extraordinary rant defending Meghan Markle.

Morgan criticised the Duchess while hosting Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, saying she was 'acting' during her visit to Dubbo in regional New South Wales with Prince Harry.

'She is an actress. She's acting great at the moment,' Morgan said, adding that it was a 'red light when people behave like that, in an odd manner'.

Stefanovic hit back at Morgan during Thursday morning's Today show, saying his comments were 'disgraceful'.

'I think she is an amazing, amazing woman and I think she's doing her very best at the moment, and she's got a lot on her plate and is doing it so beautifully,' Stefanovic said.

'She's such a great export for Great Britain, I mean - what is that guy on?'

Morgan replied to Stefanovic's outburst on Twitter, telling the Channel Nine presenter to 'pipe down'.

Morgan replied to Stefanovic's rant on Twitter, asking Stefanovic if he was 'after an honorary knighthood'

'Pipe down Karl Stefanovic - you after an honorary knighthood or something?' Morgan said.

Morgan, a MailOnline columnist, followed up his original comments by tweeting a photo of the royal couple showing Meghan looking up adoringly at Harry and holding an umbrella for him as he gave a speech.

'Once an actress...' Morgan captioned the photo, alongside three laughing-crying emojis.

Stefanovic continued his rant, saying Morgan had 'lost the plot completely'.

'Imagine his poor co-host Susanna. I don't know how she puts up with him,' Stefanovic said. His comment was met with laughter from the rest of the Today Show panel.

Stefanovic infamously criticised co-host Georgie Gardner during a leaked recorded conversation with his brother Peter in the back of an Uber in March.

'Georgie could say the same,' newsreader Natalia Cooper replied.

Stefanovic said it was not surprising the royal couple were spending time in Australia 'with people like that at home'.

'He needs to go, he needs to go. He's off the mark here,' he said.
