The senior kabaddi coach accused of molesting a 13-year-old kabaddi player at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) South Centre here last week was found dead hanging at a private lodge in Harihara, Davanagere, on Monday.

R.V. Hosamani is learnt to have checked into a lodge in Harihara town on Sunday morning. The hotel staff suspected that something was amiss on Monday afternoon after he failed to come out of his room or open the door, even for food.

When repeated calls to him went unheeded, the hotel staff called the police who broke the door open and found him hanging.

Sources said that the body had already started decomposing, indicating he may have ended his life on Sunday.

Ravi D. Chennannavar, DCP (West), said Hosamani had left a note behind, apologising to his wife and son, the SAI, and all his students.

Last week, the 59-year-old was suspended after allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl in the girls’ dressing room.

The police had lodged a complaint against Hosamani under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
