127 erring outlets penalised

The Labour Department has sealed the nozzles of fuel dispensers in 127 petrol/diesel pumps across the State after surprise checks on October 10 to 12 revealed that the operators were shortchanging the customers. Penal action has been initiated against the owners of these fuel stations.

During the three days, 818 establishments were inspected. Of them, 34 in the Chennai region, 24 in the Coimbatore region, 30 in the Tiruchi region and 39 in the Madurai region were found to be dispensing fuel short of the quantity that the customers had paid for, an official release stated.

β€œThe consumers should ensure that while filling petrol/diesel, the meter of the pump should be in β€˜0’ position. If the consumers notice any discrepancies, they can use the five-litre stamped check measure kept in the petrol bunks to verify the correctness of the petrol/diesel delivered,” the release stated.

Consumers could complain regarding short delivery of petroleum products, by downloading the TN-LMCTS (Tamil Nadu Legal Metrology Complaint Tracking System) Mobile app on their smartphones, it added.
