To encourage the deployment of energy efficiency chiller systems in the country, the Government of India along with the Ministry of Power launched the Chiller Star Labelling Programme. Formulated by the the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the programme which is launched on a voluntary basis will provide star rating in terms of its energy performance. This initiative will promote advanced technology for central HAVC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems and will also facilitate energy efficient solutions for the large commercial and industrial applications. In 2017, the Indian chiller market stood at 1 million tonne per year and now is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.6 per cent, fueled by a growth in the retail, hospitality and infrastructure projects. Being energy intensive system, chiller contributes more than 40 per cent of the total energy consumption in commercial buildings.
