Piers Morgan has provoked a furious debate on Twitter by claiming Daniel Craig has been emasculated by carrying his one-month-old daughter in a sling. 

The James Bond star was spotted on a solo outing in New York on Sunday with the newborn he shares with his wife Rachel Weisz, but Piers was unimpressed, tweeting: 'Oh 007.. not you as well?!!! #papoose #emasculatedBond.'

Twitter users were not impressed and bombarded the GMB host with images of fathers baby wearing with some toting two children at the same time. 

Even Captain America star Chris Evans weighed in, tweeting: 'You really have to be so uncertain of your own masculinity to concern yourself with how another man carries his child. 

'Any man who wastes time quantifying masculinity is terrified on the inside.'

Piers later clarified: 'There’s nothing wrong in carrying or caring for your child. I did it with all four of mine. My ire is directed solely at the papoose.

'Wearing a papoose doesn’t mean you "care" more about your kids.' 

And in response to a woman who said her husband used to carry their sons around in a sling so she could get some rest, he asked: 'Why couldn’t he use his arms, like every other generation of dads?'

However, Twitter users remained incensed by his claim that wearing a sling makes a father less of a man. 

Elixa Leggatt from Texas shared a snap of her husband doing dishes while baby wearing, saying: 'Looking most hotter than most ever will. Let me tell you how furious I was.' 

Canadian born former professional wrestler turned actor Adam 'Edge' Copeland revealed he'd even donned an Elsa from Frozen costume when his daughter wanted him to wear her mother's Halloween costume. 

'I look ridiculous. But who cares? That's what you do for your kids,' he said. 'I'm sure Piers would find this emasculating. I saw only if you're uncomfortabnle in your masculinity.'
