You can burst crackers on only three days

CHANDIGARH: The UT administration on Monday ordered a ban on bursting of all types of firecrackers with immediate effect till November 24, other than on Dussehra (October 19) from 5pm to 8pm, Diwali (November 7) from 6.30pm to 9.30pm and on Gurpurb (November 23) from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
Those failing to comply will be liable to be prosecuted for disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The order issued under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) by district magistrate Sachin Rana reads, “During festival season, bursting of firecrackers and other fireworks, cause noise and air pollution, which is likely to create annoyance and occurrence of injury to health of general public. Hence, there is an urgent need to prevent the same by restricting the use of firecrackers and other fireworks within Chandigarh.”
According to the order, manufacturing, sale or use of firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125 dB (AI) or 145 dB(C) pk at 4 metres distance from the point of bursting is prohibited.
Also, every manufacturer should on the box of each firecracker, mention details of its chemical contents and that it satisfies the requirement as laid down by the department of explosive.
Last year, the UT had issued same orders after the directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court.
