LUCKNOW: The executive committee of Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Monday approved an additional fund of Rs 98 crores for repair and reconstruction of roads in the city. The sum is in addition to Rs 60 crore approved in March for this financial year.

While Rs 80 crore have been sanctioned for reconstruction of badly damaged roads, Rs 18 crore have been allocated for patch work on potholed roads in different areas of city. The decision follows TOI's campaign highlighting problems faced by people due to miserable condition of the city roads that need urgent repair. Municipal commissioner Indramani Tripathi said that funds will be distributed to various wards of city on the basis of report on condition of roads submitted by respective corporators.

"Thereafter, registered contractors will be assigned repair and construction job. Before allocation of funds, LMC will cross-check the condition of particular area to calculate how much money should be provided to the contractor," Tripathi said.
