PUNE: Two constables from the Hadapsar police station and an alert neighbour saved the life of a 40-year-old man who had tried to hang himself at his house on Sunday night.
The constables, Yuvraj Kamble and Vitthal Chipade, rushed to the house after the neighbour called the Pune police control room to tell them about the man hanging. The constables were patrolling the area on a motorcycle when they received an alert from the control room.
Kamble and Chipade broke down the door of the apartment in which the man lived. Seeing him hanging, one of them grabbed his legs and pushed him towards the roof while the other cut the rope around his neck with a knife. They realized that the man was breathing and needed immediate medical attention. They called his relatives who arrived quickly.
The constables also summoned an ambulance and took the man to the Sassoon general hospital. Later, the hospital authorities said the man was recovering. Police said he is employed with a private company and was going through a troubled domestic life.
Senior inspector Sunil Tambe of the Hadapsar police station commended Kamble and Chipade saying, “They responded amazingly well and saved the man’s life.”
