Telangana State Power Coordination Committee has asked the power utilities to be alert in handling the demand-supply situation in the wake of over 3,000 mw deficit supply to the State following damage caused to Angul-Srikakulam and Talcher-Kolar inter-regional transmission lines in the recent Titli cyclone.
A meeting of the committee was chaired here on Monday by Chairman and Managing Director of TS-Transco and TS-Genco with the CMDs of two Discoms — A. Gopal Rao and G. Raghuma Reddy — and other officials. Mr. Prabhakar Rao stated that they were in touch with the Power Grid Corporation constantly and enquiring about the restoration work.
He hoped that restoration of the two inter-regional transmission lines linking South from North could be completed by Tuesday evening.
High demand
Mr. Prabhakar Rao, however, suggested the officials of Transco and Discoms to be prepared to handle the situation of increasing demand-supply gap in the wake of drop in supply and rise in demand. Maximum demand of power in the State in October was 10,600 mw this year as against 7,538 mw last year, he noted.
He explained to the meeting that several transmission towers were damaged and high-tension conductor was snapped at several places in the two inter-regional transmission lines due to heavy winds caused by Titli cyclone disrupting supply of power from the North to South, impacting the supply in all southern States. The disruption in power supply from North to South was expected to continue for another three days due to adverse weather conditions, he stated.
Later in the day, the Transco CMD also review the situation in the Southern Discom separately, where the latter’s CMD stated that maximum consumption of energy in Greater Hyderabad was 55.9 million units and it was 155 mu in the Discom with the maximum power demand clocking at 6,961 mw.
