Thiruvananthapuram, The representatives of Pandalam Palace and the Tantri Family have walked out from the meeting called by Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) on Tuesday to discuss issues related to SC order allowing entry of women of all ages into Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala.
Talking to Newspersons after walking out from the meeting, Pandalam Palace Managing Committee President Sasikumar Varma expressed displeasure over the TDB’s stand to not file review petition in SC against the verdict.
Though we requested the TDB to take urgent steps to stop the entry of women into the temple, Varma said theTDB was not ready to heed their demands to protect the customs and centuries-old traditions.
“However, the Board said it will consider our request in its meeting to be held on October 19. The TDB has also not given any assurance on filing the review petition. So, we decided to walkout from the meeting in protest against the TDB stand,” Varma added.
Later, TDB President A Padmakumar told media persons that the Board will discuss issues related to filing the review petition on its meeting on October 19.
However, the Board could opt legal course only when the SC reopens after the Pooja holidays on October 22, he added.”Though we have clarified this to the representatives of Pandalam Palace and the Tantri Family, they were adamant to file the review petition on today itself. It will not possible,” the TDB President added.
The TDB members will go to Sabarimala, Tuesday to review the arrangements in connection with the five-day opening of the temple, he added.
