A 36-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by three persons in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh on October 14 for non-payment of a debt, the police said on Monday. The three accused have been arrested, they said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said that the accused have been identified as Rajeev alias Billa (37), Sanjeev alias Babbu (47) and Jagdish Sharma alias Jaggi (49). They allegedly killed Nitin for not paying ₹12.5 lakh, which he owed to Jagdish, who runs a construction business.
The police control room received a call around 4 a.m. on Sunday from a private hospital. The police were informed that Nitin, who had been admitted in the hospital with bruises all over his body, was declared brought dead.

“His family members said that he had come home late in the night with injuries. They took him to the hospital. He did not disclose the identity of the attackers to them,” Ms. Bhardwaj said.
A murder case was registered and an investigation was taken up. The police scanned the call records of the victim, after which teams zeroed in on the accused. Jagdish, Rajeev and Sanjeev were arrested later with the help of technical surveillance they said.
During interrogation, the accused told the police that Nitin had borrowed ₹12.5 lakh from Jagdish, who had been demanding the money back for the past few weeks.
When Nitin failed to return the money, Jagdish called him in his office through Sanjeev.
“The three of them beat him [Nitin] up with a stick. They also took his scooty and forced him to sign on the sale letters of the vehicle. They let him go after over three hours,” Ms. Bhardwaj said, adding that the police have recovered the stick and the victim’s two-wheeler, which the accused had taken from him forcibly.
The police also said that Jagdish, who was infamous in Punjabi Bagh,had started working as a builder. He has been found involved in six criminal cases.
Sanjeev worked as a DJ organiser at a restaurant in the area, while Rajiv is an AC mechanic, the police further said.
