AGRA: The Alumni meet at Aligarh Muslim University on Tuesday witnessed a silent protest by Kashmiri students, including girls, against the sedition charges, suspension and show cause notices issued to students in wake of events following the killing of research scholar turned terrorist, Mannan Wani in Jammu & Kashmir last week.
With tapes on their lips, the students held posters of "Free speech is our right", "Being Kashmiri is not a crime", "Don’t play with our careers" and "Revoke Sedition and Suspension". The protest was held outside the Kennedy hall, where the meet was scheduled.
Sajjad Subhan rather, vice president of AMU students' union, who was also the part of the protest, alleged that the administration is not acting as an autonomous body. He said, "they are taking their decisions on the directions of politicians".
Women students of the university also came in support of Kashmiri students. One of the students said that the matter is not related to Kashmiris only, they are part of the university. "We stand with them and we demand that sedition charges should be dropped and their suspensions should be revoked," said a female student.
