A pathetic fight in a McDonald's car park triggered a chain of events that led to the frenzied stabbing of a 14-year-old boy 'over nothing better than male ego', a Sydney judge says.
Martin Hana, 25, was sentenced to six years and two months with a non-parole period of four years and three months at the NSW District Court on Tuesday.
He had pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the 'revenge' attack on the teenager in the stairwell of a Fairfield unit complex in Western Sydney in August 2016.

During the incident in the restaurant car park, Hana (left) allegedly suffered a black eye.
Two days before the stabbing, the young victim had knocked one of Hana's friends to the ground in a late-night fight between two male groups outside McDonald's, according to the agreed facts.
During the incident in the restaurant car park, Hana allegedly suffered a black eye.
'This set off an unfortunate chain of events that led to this particular serious offending,' Judge John Pickering said, noting the victim had been 'the aggressor'.
'Why it is that people hang around McDonald's late at night, seemingly to do nothing more than create trouble, is something that bemuses judges like me all the time.
'The patheticness of some nothing dispute at 11.30 at night that fundamentally results in a 14-year-old being stabbed nine times, over nothing better than male ego, is something that really people wonder about in society,' he said.
Hana kept watch on his victim from a Toyota Camry and on the night of the offence told him to 'come under the bridge' after spotting him near Fairfield train station before driving away.

As a result of the incident, the boy received at least 26 staples (left) to a wound down his stomach

During the ordeal in the Fairfield apartment complex stairwell, the boy also suffered a collapsed lung
Hana returned in a BMW with up to three other men and chased the boy into a unit block, yelling 'catch him'.
After recognising Hana from the McDonald's fight, the teenager had fled to the complex 'hoping he could seek refuge' with a friend of his who lived there.
But Hana and the other men caught up with him in the stairwell.
'The victim then felt himself getting stabbed in the body and when he looked saw that the males had knives,' the facts state.
His friend heard his cries for help and appeared with 'a big stick' which prompted Hana and the others to flee.
As a result of the incident, the boy suffered a collapsed lung and received at least 26 staples to a wound down his stomach.
Judge Pickering said Hana had 'turned to the wrong kind of people' and turned away from his loving family.
Hana waved to his crying supporters as he was taken from court. He'll be eligible for parole from December 2020.
