As the Australian tour kicks off for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, adoring royal fans are embracing the highly-anticipated visit Down Under.

And as the countdown begins, excited Dubbo residents are set to welcome Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle on Wednesday.

The royal couple will pay a historic visit to the regional city in New South Wales with a population of just 55,000 during their epic two-week itinerary.

Ahead of the visit, royal watchers have been painting the town red and blue, with business owners decorating their shopfronts with cut outs of the married couple.

Among the excited fans is Dubbo mayor Ben Shields, who will host the Picnic in the Park for Prince Harry and his pregnant wife Meghan at Victoria Park on October 17.

The mayor has been busy with his hosting duties - as the high-spirited community rally to prepare ahead of the royal meet-and-greet.

Every corner of the city has been filled with flags, colourful buntings, posters of the royal couple, cut-outs and giant welcoming signs.

Some businesses are planning to shut their doors for the day so their customers and staff members can enjoy the historic event.
