FOXBORO – After catching two passes for 17 yards on the Patriots second series of the game, Chris Hogan was suddenly quiet. The receiver, who looked open on several plays, went the second and third quarters without a catch.

It's been like that for the veteran receiver this season. Through five games, his season-high was 42 yards.

On Sunday, Hogan best that mark at the most important time. The 30-year-old caught two passes – for 42 yards and then for 19 yards – on an important fourth quarter drive. Hogan, who finished with 78 yards on fourth catches, came through in the clutch for the Patriots in their comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I mean, that’s football. You can’t do everything on the field,” Hogan said of his quiet quarters. “I just got to make sure for 60 minutes I’m going out there and doing my job, running routes the best that I can and try to get open and when opportunities come my way, try to make the play.”

That’s what Hogan did in the fourth quarter. With 7:20 left, on third-and-1, Brady connected deep with Hogan for 42 yards. The receiver tied his season-high in one catch on that play. Brady went right back to him on the next snap, hitting Hogan for 19 yards. That set up a first-and-goal from the 5. With the Pats down, 33-30, it was huge as Brady eventually scored on a quarterback keeper.

“Chris was running. There were some other things kind of going on in that play, and he stayed alive,” Brady said. “I’ve hit him on that a bunch over the last two-and-a-half years. He’s got enough speed to separate down the field, and I threw it up high enough to try to give him a chance to run under it. So, he made a great play.”

“It was good,” Hogan added. “Obviously, it was a big play for us happy that I was able to come through given the opportunity.”
