MJ Akbar files defamation case against journalist Ramani

New Delhi, Union Minister MJ Akbar on Monday filed a defamation case against Journalist Priya Ramani who allegedly levelled charges of sexual misconduct against him.

Mr Akbar submitted in his complaint that Ramani levelled the charges “wilfully, deliberately, intentionally and maliciously” on social media.

He further submitted through his complaint that it was also apparent that false narrative against the complainant was being circulated in a motivated manner for the fulfillment of an agenda.

Mr Akbar further submitted that Ramani has not only damaged his goodwill and reputation in his social circles but also affected his reputation in the community, friends, family and colleagues and caused irreparable loss and tremendous distress.

He has sought from the court, issuance of notice to Ramani under section 499 (defamation) and section 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Priya Ramani, Ghazala Wahab, Shuma Raha, Anju Bharti and Shutapa Paul are the women who have accused Mr Akbar of sexual harassment.
