SRINAGAR: Students of the Kashmir University staged a silent march on Monday to show solidarity with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students facing sedition charges for trying to offer funeral prayers in absentia for a slain Ph.D scholar-turned-militant commander.

Manan Bashir Wani, who was a Ph.D scholar in AMU before he joined militant ranks in January, was killed in a gunfight with the security forces on October 11 in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.

AMU authorities had suspended three Kashmiri students last week who tried to hold the funeral prayers inside the varsity campus.

In a letter to the university authorities, 1,200 Kashmiri students undergoing various courses at the AMU have threatened to give up their studies and leave if the charges against the suspended students were not withdrawn by Wednesday.
