CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has directed its departments to identify vacant posts at different levels so that it could provide training required for these jobs to youth seeking employment.
Under its flagship scheme ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’, the state government has asked its departments, especially education, food and civil supplies, and industries and commerce, to explore job potential in their respective sectors and inform the department of employment generation and training for connecting job providers with job seekers.
The state is reeling under a high rate of unemployment and creating job avenues was a poll promise of the Congress for the 2017 assembly elections. High unemployment is seen as one of the main reasons for drug menace in the state.
The state government has set an ambitious target of providing jobs to 5 lakh youth in this fiscal.
All job seekers registered with the government will be informed about vacancies notified by the state and central government organisations, such as railways, post offices, banks, and other private organisations.
D K Tiwari, who is the secretary of employment generation and training, and mission director of skill development, said they were in the process of identifying job openings across sectors and provide job seekers training for these jobs. “The department of employment generation and training will impart training and coaching to all registered job seekers. The said training will cover general awareness, personality development, grooming, English speaking\communication, and soft skills,” said Tiwari.
To achieve the target of self-employment schemes, the government will link placement and other portals of Punjab Technical University (PTU) and its affiliated colleges with the official portal of Ghar Ghar Rozgar.
To enable rural youth to get suitable jobs closer to home, the government has come up with neighbouring employment programmes. As the wood-based industry in the state has a fairly large employment potential, the department of forests has been asked to explore job opportunities to ensure employment of rural youth in the industry.
Job bureaus by Nov 15
Job bureaus set up in each district will be operational by November 1. The bureaus will be responsibile for helping job-seekers find employment as per their qualification and training. Each bureau will be headed by a chief executive officer (CEO), who will be assisted by a deputy CEO, and placement and training officers.
