Two police officers were injured when a man with criminal antecedents dashed his car into their near here in Maharashtra, police said Monday.

The injured, (sub-inspector), and Bhagwan Tayde (assistant sub-inspector) are attached to the Virar police station of the district rural police, Police PRO said.

The incident took place in Virar Sunday night when a police team patrolling in a spotted Faiaz Khalij Shaikh, who has several criminal cases pending against him, in a car with two women, he said.

When the team was about to arrest Shaikh, he pointed revolver at them and dashed his car into their jeep, injuring the two policemen, Katkar said.

A manhunt has been launched to nab Shaikh and the women accompanying him, he said.

He has been booked under IPC sections related to attempt to murder and other charges besides the provisions of the Arms Act, Katkar added.
