MUMBAI: The body of a 20-year-old model was found stuffed in a travel bag in a bush near Mindspace, Malad (West), on Monday. Within four hours of getting a call from a person who spotted the bag, the police arrested a second-year college student who lives in Millat Nagar, Andheri (West), for Mansii Dixit’s murder. The student, Muzzamal Sayyed (19), told the police Dixit was in his flat when they had a scuffle and he hit her with a stool, inadvertently killing her.
Dixit hailed from Kota, Rajasthan, and had been living in Andheri (West) for six months. The police said Sayyed had befriended her through a common friend during a get-together.
The Bangur Nagar police station received a call about the bag around 3pm. “Two policemen rushed to the spot and opened the traveler’s bag. Dixit’s face was strapped with strings and her body was wrapped in cushion, with a bedsheet rolled over,” said a police officer.
Almost immediately, DCP (Zone XI) Sangramsinh Nishandar formed a team, which checked footage from CCTV cameras near the spot where the bag was found. After looking at several vehicles, the team saw a cab stopping at the spot and a youngster getting out of it with a traveler’s bag. The team followed the cab’s CCTV trail (from cameras installed on roads) and found Sayyed leaving it after travelling a few kilometers.
CCTV footage then showed Sayyed taking an autorickshaw. After sometime, he alights from it. “He then hires another cab to go to his Andheri residence. We found him alighting from the cab at Oshiwara. We managed to get details of the cab driver and with his help managed to locate the building where Sayyed stays alone,” said a police officer.
