JALANDHAR: In spite of facing a rebellion, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) managed to retain the control of Takht Patna Sahib Management Board on Sunday, as senior party leader Avtar Singh Hit was elected president of the board.
Hit has replaced former SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar, who was in the board as nominee of SGPC and was elected as president around two and half years ago. The fresh election has been held after constitution of the new board which has nominees of SGPC, Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, Chief Khalsa Diwan, Singha Sabhas, local nominated members and four elected members. SAD had sent DSGMC general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa and MP Balwinder Singh Bhunder as observers.
Sirsa played key role in getting Hit elected and no candidate was fielded against him. Hit is former president of DSGMC and is senior vice president and core committee member of SAD. He is also a member of DSGMC and was nominated by it for representation in Takht Patna Sahib Board.
Sirsa said other office-bearers were also affiliated to SAD. The other office-bearers are: senior vice president Dr Gurmit Singh, junior vice president Inderjeet Singh, general secretary M S Dhillon and secretary M S Chhabra.
