The P-Bruins led, 1-0, after the first period on Zach Senyshyn's second goal in two games, but the Thunderbirds wasted no time grabbing the lead in the second period.
Zolnierczyk tied the game with a goal at 1:18, then set up Anthony Greco for a goal 50 seconds later, giving Springfield a 2-1 lead. Blaine Byron's goal at 3:22 increased the lead to 3-1.
Colby Cave brought Providence to within a goal with a score at 6:33 of the second.
In the third period, Springfield blew the game open on goals by MacDonald (4:21), Henrik Borgstrom (5:59) and MacDonald again (10:35).
Ryan Fitzgerald scored his first goal of the season for the P-Bruins on a 5-on-3 power play at 17:05.
Zane McIntyre made 14 saves for Providence. Sam Montembeault stopped 30 shots for Springfield.
